All Eight in Tallinn, None in Washington
On the 9th of June, Prime Ministers of eight Nordic and Baltic States (NB8) will be meeting at the Statehood House in Tallinn. PMs will, as usual, discuss defence industry cooperation, support for Ukraine, competitiveness, and the advancement of artificial intelligence. The organisers invite journalists to fill in the accreditation form by the 29th of May and attend the press briefing. Perhaps the most interesting detail of the meeting was omitted from official communication. Estonia had high hopes that the NB8 Ministers of Foreign Affairs would hold a meeting in the United States that would run parallel to the event. The plan didn’t work out. Yet, the proposed visit was still on the NB8 website at the time this newsletter was sent. Does this mean the meeting is not cancelled but just postponed? Or will the NB8, under Estonia’s chairmanship, not achieve a major goal—strengthening the transatlantic bond?
