A rift among Estonia’s financial institutions, Latvia’s media diversity, female approach to cyber threats, Baltic security conferences overload, and arsonist facing trial in Lithuania — these are the stories that will be making the Baltic headlines in the following weeks.

Alleged Terrorists Face Trial

On the 1st of April, Lithuania’s Šiauliai District Court will open a case for a group of (alleged) arsonist saboteurs. According to the prosecutor, the group acted on behalf of Russia’s Federal Security Bureau, to plot and execute an arson attack on a storage facility holding radio equipment meant for the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Although the attack resulted in minimal damage, the six individuals—nationals of Spain, Colombia, Cuba, Russia, and Belarus—face serious terrorism related charges. A few alleged accomplices are still on the run; while another is awaiting extradition to Lithuania. Over the past couple of years, Baltic police forces have recorded over 20 cases of sabotage. As per usual, the proceedings will take place behind closed doors. However, local prosecutors have already published video footage of the incident and acknowledge the importance of communication with the public.
